Had some friends come over and just killed a bottle of Buffalo Trace,
???
Just finished supper. I'll pour some in about 30 minutes.Love it!
You tried it yet?
I like it. It's a lot more mellow than what I expected. Very easy to sip for 100 proof. It reminds me of, Maker's?Love it!

I had 2 drinks of it last night. I've gotta say, I'm impressed. The Evan Williams BiB was good, but the more I drank of it, the less I liked it. That's not the case with OGD. We might need to stock up a few bottles, before they figure out what they've got and the price goes up. LolI’ll have to give that a try, thanks guys!

And after sipping on it awhile, I figured out what it tastes like. It's not Maker's. It tastes A LOT like Basil Hayden's.I like it. It's a lot more mellow than what I expected. Very easy to sip for 100 proof. It reminds me of, Maker's?

Because it practically is BH....before they water it down to 80 proof to make BH. They even use the same bottle. You see that old man pictured on the bottle....that sir is Mr. Basil Hayden. And after sipping on it awhile, I figured out what it tastes like. It's not Maker's. It tastes A LOT like Basil Hayden's.
Have you tried Old Forester Statesman?Makes sense. I'm not a big rye fan, but, OGD Bonded is a higher rye mashbill. Very similar to Basil Hayden in that regard. Good call.

Nope, it's a sweeter bourbon so definitely worth cracking the bottle. Figured you may like it if you're not a fan of Rye.Got one on the shelf, but no, haven't tried it yet.
The only two Old Forester offerings I have tried so far are the 1910 and 1920.
So far the only way I like a true rye is in an Old Fashioned.
I chased the Midwinter Night's Dram until I had 2 bottles. @BurnedOutGeek made me open one around Christmas. I hate it. LOL!
I've tried the award winning Knob Creek Cask Strength Rye. Same thing. As well as their regular rye.
I'm not a huge Basil Hayden guy, but I do drink it on occasion.
As much as I try to like Pendleton's, it's not for me either.
I definitely tend to lean more towards the wheat vs. the rye.
OGD Bonded and some of the Wild Turkey offerings are the closest I've gotten so far to enjoying "much" rye on a somewhat "regular" basis.
Is the Statesman rye heavy?

Dont overlook OF 1897 either. That entire whiskey row collection is great but the 1897 is often overlooked.I liked the 1910 and 1920 both.
That's good to hear about the Statesman.
My dislike of rye is kinda hard to articulate.
When it goes down it feels like what I imagine acid reflux feels like.
I can and do enjoy "hot" bourbons.
I learned on Knob Creek. I can drink Satgg Jr. at 133 proof or higher and enjoy it all day long.
But something about rye just bothers me.
You've obviously been home too long, theres no wood left to burn.It finally burnt in two, then we had to cook.
