Disc golf

Been playing Renske during lunch with a few coworkers 2-3x a week lately. Played Renaissance Gold on Saturday. Completely different beast. Very humbling.

Played Renske during lunch 3 days this week. Tuesday played at lunch, then 2 rounds after lunch.
I’ve brought my scores (on that course at least) down from about +22 to a best of +11 this week. My release is starting to develop and come to me. This sport is getting addictive.

Man I hear that. I am totally obsessed now. 😂

Raleigh area peeps need to check out the new Town of Cary Diavolo course at the tobacco trail. 22 holes and world class.

IT IS MAGNIFICENT !!!!!!

Like 4 par 5’s and a couple 4’s. It’s a daisy!!

Just got back from my ortho appointment. Seems I have a ruptured bicep tendon. Start PT next week. Outlook is not rosy. So if anyone wants to come by and get a great deal on some golf discs and bags let me know. Seems even if things go well disc golf is probably not in my future. Unless I go lefty.

@NKD

Do you know how the rupture happened?
I ask because a couple weeks ago I heard and felt an audible “pop” in my right elbow on a drive on hole 3. I should have called it quits then and there, but finished the round, and played a few more that same week. Took a week or so off to try to let it heal, then played again Tuesday this week. I haven’t been to the doctor yet, but it is still sore (but not painful). Wondering if it is something with the tendons or ligaments. Have full range of motion, but just some slight soreness in my upper forearm just below the elbow.

Pretty sure mine was a long term issue. I’ve played for about 10 years and throw a ton of thumbers. Several years ago I noticed some elbow and arm soreness after spending 2 days working on some downed trees on our property, followed up with 36 holes of tough mountain golf. Took a break for about 6 months then. Problem just kept coming back until it snapped on hole 18 at Ashe County Park. Only so many rounds in a barrel I guess. Good news is rehab seems to be going well. Might try to throw again in January.

Also depending on your age you need a lot mire time to heal than a week. Ligaments, tendons and all that stuff loses some elasticity as we age. And we don’t bounce back at 50 like we did at 20.

Do you mean you played Renny? As in renaissance park? That place almost made me cry the first time I played it. Used to be a very challenging course.

Been playing Renske frequently. Short and fun course.
Played Renaissance Gold just the one time. It was over 9,000 IIRC. Definitely not a beginners course.

Went to Diavolo Saturday morning. That was a mistake. Very packed. Left on 6 and went to Kentwood. Got a really clean -1 there. After playing two good par rounds there in a row last week. Giving up serious birdies with missed putts.

Played Swinging db’s and Middle Creek today. Swingin DB’s was kinda rustic. Private technical course.

According to my phone that is like 22,000 steps in two days.

Any beginner friendly courses in southern Wake? I’m down at my folks place on 50 Highway at the WaCo/JoCo border for early T-giving this weekend. Would like to squeeze in a quick round tomorrow morning if possible.
Any Wake Co. folks up for a round in the morning?

Kentwood off Western near NCSU was good when I was at NCSU 15 yrs ago. I learned to play there. It was pretty open and hard to loose disks in brush. If you're not allergic to ivy, there are tones of tennis balls around the adjacent tennis courts. I did a couple times filling trash bags with tennis balls and my dog would go bat @hit crazy when I dumped them all out.

Oh dang wish I would have seen this. Could have met for a round. There’s quite a few good choices around.
Middle Creek is really good.

Kentwood has brand new baskets. Been really busy there lately.

Anyone in the Wake County area up for a round this weekend? I’ll be down visiting my folks in Garner, and would like to get out to try one of the courses in the area. Not sure yet if I can get away Saturday or Sunday, but just throwing a feeler out to see if anyone is down to sling some discs.

You should really do the Diavolo course outside Cary if you can.

I’d meet you but my arm isn’t doing well. So I could walk the course, drink beer and tell you how shitty your throws are if that will help. :D

Don't have to wear those stupid golf clothes.
Huh? Golf clothes? I did see some mention of gay in this thread.

Never tried disc golf but it sounds fun. I do like regular golf. One time I played in a tournament and we came in second place. There were a few holes where I carried the team even. Oh and playing with guys on an expense account at a country club with booze girls was an event. I think our tab was like $125.

I try to play Sloan Park’s course in Mt. Ulla, NC as often as the weather allows. If anyone is local and wants to get a round in, holler at me. I’ve got plenty of discs, so if you just want to try out the game, that’s cool too. I’m not very skilled at throwing them, but I’ve definitely got good at finding them in the woods!

The brother-in-law got us the 3 disk sets for giftmas, and we've been trying to learn watching youtube videos and practicing in the yard. Finally knowing distances to things in the yard is useful!

I’ve got a full metric ton of discs and a bad arm. If you want or need some feebies let me know and I’ll meet you somewhere. Crappy extras are good to have for Harris Lake rounds.

I just got my 3rd ace on hole 6 at Kentwood today.
Bittersweet as lost a favorite disc into the creek, which was a raging torrent today haha.

BTW, nobody takes Kentwood seriously. Those aces don’t count. :p

Haha so true! And it’s probably the easiest hole on the course. Definitely a hole just about anybody can take a run at.

But it’s never going to be anything but a hole-in-one!

Ha. But you’ve got 2 more than me. I seem to have more luck on 200’ birdies. Such is life.

i feel like I’ve been incredibly lucky! Jerry who I play with all the time usually beats me soundly, but hasn’t had one yet. But he’s been close many times.

There’s a new pop-up course at Dorthea Dix Park in Raleigh. Probably check it out this weekend.

I may almost be ready to try a round with you. But it’s going to have to be a nice short, easy course. I might even just play a round with a lid to start so there is no temptation to over throw something.

I guess I am more of a disc golf operator than player. First ace on hole 7 at Middle Creek. Looked like I meant to do it. I use pink discs because I am so confident.

That's a tight lane, good job! I've aced #6 twice, back to back weeks and haven't thrown worth a damn on it since. Is that a cobra? That is what I throw on that hole.
