Disc golf

That's a tight lane, good job! I've aced #6 twice, back to back weeks and haven't thrown worth a damn on it since. Is that a cobra? That is what I throw on that hole.

Thanks! It’s a Dx Sidewinder. 6 is tricky. I either get it close, or I’m screwed down in the gulch!

edit: unfortunately that disc bounced off a tree and went into the pond at Jones. Was bummed!

I may almost be ready to try a round with you. But it’s going to have to be a nice short, easy course. I might even just play a round with a lid to start so there is no temptation to over throw something.

That’s good to hear! Should do Kentwood.

I did the Dorthea Dix course today. Was pretty cool. All par 4’s and 5’s. All long and mostly open. Was fun change from the regular NC woods.

I played renaissance near the CLT airport today. My buddy and I were retrieving a disc down in the big gully on hole 18.

The poor guy slipped into a hole and injured his foot. I helped drag him up the hill to a grassy area. I'm 5'8" 170, he's 6'5" 250, that took some doing, mostly his doing to be honest.

I managed to get a car onto the field to get him and took him to the ER. It turned out to be a broken fibula. Bummer day for him.

Dang that sucks.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but HA. Another victim of Renny. That course has crushed more than one person. Hope your buddy heals quickly.

I’ve never understood how the people I’ve seen play in sandals or light footwear survive. Some of the places I’ve thrown discs have need hip waders or snake boots.

Played two rounds today at Torma Town. Pay-to-play course ($5 for all day) on a combo of private land and a power line right-of-way. It’s a fun little course with a good amount of elevation change.

I made a pretty good shot on that last hole, but left my favorite disk behind sitting in the grass.

Such an amazing shot. Philo is cool. But I believe it was an albatross of a 850’ par 5.
So his second shot, I think around 450’.
This video shows his drive as well.

I’ve been working on increasing my release speed and distance, and I think I may have over done it. Feels like I’ve pulled a muscle in my right shoulder. Taking a few days off from playing to allow it to rest and hopefully heal. This sucks. Feels like 2 steps forward and one step back.

My shoulder is almost always sore. Sucks.
Having a hard time getting my swing better.
My technique sucks. And I’m having a hard time improving it.

I think you basically need a Driver, a mid range, and a putter. They seem to cost 8-15$ each for the most part. Can probably get packages cheaper online, and can probably spend more too. PlayItAgain sports seems to be a good resource for them. They have both new and used.

Edit: can easily get away with just long range and putter to begin.
If you're me you'll need extra. Ive been known to toss the disc into the woods.

Keep working. Someday, if you try hard enough, you will have lost half as many as I have!

I'd like to get into this. Any "kit" you guys can recommend?

I'd start with a Discraft Buzzz SS and a putter like an Innova Aviar. Maybe two of each. Just my opinion.

I agree with Dave. Definitely nothing faster than a midrange when starting out. Learn to throw them, learn to throw them accurately, and learn to throw them consistently. Then work up to a fairway, and lastly drivers.
I wish I had done this when starting out. Would have saved lots of frustration in my part.

I played when I was in college at ECU (87-91), they had a course by the track and baseball stadium. I really enjoyed it. Like most things in my life, I really sucked at it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Should get back out and play man! If nothing else, it's good exercise and a nice walk. So many nice courses around.

Great family activity. And free once you have the discs!

I just looked up courses, there's one about four miles from us. And probably another two with in seven or eight miles.

I think I will suggest this to my wife and go to play it again sports and pick up a couple of discs.

That is the key to disc golf. At my peak I am half way decent to mediocre. I’ve played a lot with some very good players. Pretty sure I had as much or more fun than they did. My torn bicep tendon seems to be healed fairly well. Might have to tip the toes back in the water soon. Weather is perfect.

This summer heat takes a lot more out of me when I play, but still having fun. Played my first tournament last night. Random dubs at Renske. Didn’t play so great, partner carried us to an -8. Think winning score was around -15 or so.

Same here. All the time. Did 10 miles the other day! Got my 5th ace at Kentwood on 17 about two weeks ago.

I’ve played about 3 or times in the last month. Trying not to over do it and snap my tendon off again. @NKD when you are up for playing that brutal new cpurse near me let me know. I haven’t gotten over there yet. Just played Buckhorn and Rock Ridge a few times. Mixed results. Playing without my thumber sucks.

Anytime man! Just played there twice within last week. Love Diavolo.

Sup? Anybody chucking discs? Been crappy weather but there’s been some decent windows.
I moved to Hillsborough. Kinda a black hole around here for courses. I miss Kentwood!

But I’ve been hitting some other stuff like UNC, which I love, and Valley Springs (warming up to it). Looking forward to some more around Burlington.

So i was driving down my neighborhood and saw a laundry basket at the road. A free sign. I pull over and its packed with disc golf discs. about 50-60. The lady had a kid who left home 10-15 years ago. I bring them home as i have a dog. That was about 3 years ago. We still have about 10-15 as i took some to our cabin to have. The dog went through them or they got thrown into the woods by me or the kids.

Come to look at them, they are from various tournaments, events etc. Google told me that some are/were worth $15-$50 and up. But the dog loves them. They last a long time.

You are fairly close to Anderson. It’s not awesome, but IMO better than Kentwood. And you’re closer to the club now so maybe some more chootin’.

I might be able to meet you somewhere Saturday. I‘ve got a lot of chores to do, but weather looks excellent.
