Disc golf

You are fairly close to Anderson. It’s not awesome, but IMO better than Kentwood. And you’re closer to the club now so maybe some more chootin’.

I might be able to meet you somewhere Saturday. I‘ve got a lot of chores to do, but weather looks excellent.

Never heard of Anderson. I’ll look it up.
I lied kentwood as it was so close I could do quick rounds during workweek.

Saturday I am actually going to caddy for a pro at a tournament at wellspring/cedarock.

Should be interesting!!

Played in my first tournament last weekend. There was 10 other MA40 competitors and I finished 5th. I wasn’t too sure about skipping over the novice and recreational divisions but I’m glad I did. Going to play in another tournament next weekend to see if I can control the nerves a little better. I had a couple of circle’s edge putts that I should have jammed in that I missed. It was definitely an enjoyable experience.

Nice!!

Gonna be down in Garner this weekend. Thinking about going to play East Clayton Saturday morning. Anyone live close by and want to join me? Never played there before and a local guide might help.

So nobody wants to play E. Clayton. Anyone want to play Kentwood tomorrow instead?

I’d love to play both but a little far for me tomorrow.
Have you done UNC?

Also there’s middle creek which is a fun course.

UNC is farther than I would like to drive from the WaCo/JoCo line. Where’s Middle Creek?

Middle Creek between Garner and Holly springs. Real nice, imo.
Also there’s Jones park in Holly Springs. Nice as well.

@NKD , finally made it out to Sugaree yesterday. It is epic if a little brutal at times. If weather allows I may get back there once more this week. My photography skills suck, but here some pics. Mountain DG is so much better than low land stuff.

That looks amazing!

Looks like a poor man’s Maple Hill.

Ha! Told you my photography skills suck. It is a better course than Maple Hill. Definitely tougher which hurts some ego’s, but if you are just in it for fun and scenery it is better than Maple Hill. Although Maple Hill is very freaking nice.

Anybody tried Rockness Monster in Roxboro?

Hit that solo the other day. Really cool course.

Great to see you out playing! How’s the arm/shoulder feel?

So far my bicep tendon is still attached. I even braved a couple easy going thumbers at Sugaree. But something very odd has happened. My technique must have magically gotten better after not playing for 2 years. I am throwing farther and turning over disc easier. But I am also less consistent because I am not playing very often. This is my first time playing 2 rounds in a week. And Sugaree was 22 holes.

I hear the best disc golf course in North Carolina was once my favorite golf course (Blue Ridge Golf Club). The course didn’t make it thru a couple of owners which was not because of the course which was glorious. The owner of the property made it a disc golf course and rumor is the college championships were played there. It’s a must see place in the mountains.

Now called North Cove Disc Golf and Leisure Club. Small hotel, clubhouse, restaurant located in North Cove a few miles north of Marion, NC. Short drive to Linville Caverns

Got my first player A ace yesterday! A nice little 175 foot back hand turnover with a putter. I needed it pretty badly because I triple bogeyed a hole right before it happened. A picture of the hole from UDisc.

Congrats on the ace!

Almost all mountain courses are better than those without the natural elevations and ruggedness. I’ll have to try that one out because I am not sure how you turn a mostly open golf course into a good disc golf course. The course design must be cool if it’s a really nice disc golf course. They used to play the US Championships down at the course at Winthrop in Rock Hill and I always though that was a little too wide open. But that had some trees, water features and a huge bamboo wall on one hole to add some variety. Then again I‘m old and don’t throw far. The young really great players probably enjoy open spaces and watching their discs go 500’.

Played Ashe County Park this morning. It’s about 15 minutes from our place in West Jeff. A little something for everyone there.

Is there another water hole on the other side of the basket here, or just a gulley? It looks like the basket is sitting on a dam between two ponds.

And this is where my disk would end up within 5 degrees right or left.

USDGC is still held at Winthrop every October.

No rumor - college championship was held there about a month ago.

They should go pay Elon long or whatever course in Charlotte is currently the bas ass. It used to be Renny. I played that the first time after playing a few times. I think I cried in my hotel that night. But good technical courses aren‘t made for spectators or video. Less money making opportunities.

Angry Beaver. Yeah, that would make for horrible spectating & filming. But the competition would be amazing.

That picture is not really honest. It is longer than it looks. Think I zoomed it a bunch. I played it safe and landed it on the bank to left and short of the basket. As I was leaving in my truck some big strong bucks were throwing off the tee and there were 2 splash downs as I drove off. 🤪

We should have a partners CFF DG tourney. If we have enough people. There is camping at Sugaree and 25 holes of brutal awesomeness. I think we could play Black Jack in Valle Crucis also. That place is sweet too. Played through the owner’s wedding there once. The free beer and food was a nice break in the middle of a round.

Sorry, never replied to this. That is a damn so if you over shoot the disc could roll a long way down the hill. In the picture about where you see a basket on a hill between 2 tress the pond is directly behind the basket.
