Dumbest thing youve heard in a gun shop

I was in Nichols guns in Rock hill a few months ago and bought a Ruger AR-15 receiver for a pistol project and just because I like to make Bill Ruger roll over in his grave. When I was filling out the 4473 the clerk made a point of telling me that even though it said multi on the lower whatever he put on the form as far as caliber it had to remain because that is what the ATF field agent told him and that I would have to engrave the caliber I make it on the receiver. I made a point of telling him that ATF field agents are usually sociology majors who couldnt get a job after college besides working for the government and don't know gun laws worth a squat until you get into the upper levels and that the agent had probably confused or mixed together some NFA rags with title one regs and just spit some fake knowledge out. He got mad and went away.
There's a BIG difference between an agent and an inspector (or whatever they call them these days.) I ran into one a few years ago who was passing out terrible info, The guy that was working at the counter must have been related to her intellectually. I guy wanted to buy a gun I had but I told him he had to get a permit or CCW. She told him I was wrong. You only have to abide by federal law when buying a firearm. No sale!. I thought seriously of calling Charlotte and telling they had a first class moron working for them but that could have been anyone. I just let it drop.

Didn’t hear it in a gun shop...but just had to endure this in a book I’m reading.

found it really odd because the first two in the series and the first 2/3 of this one didn’t have any dumb firearm related errors like that

Hmmmm...
Gee, I wonder if the author obtained permission from Gaston before using that copywritten and trademarked name?
Snitch Snitch Snitch

This one will ruffle feathers. Hear it all the time at my LGS.

"Trump is the most 2A president we've ever had"
So who was the best 2nd A President ever? Im not going ever. Just my lifetime.

Johnson? Hell No. The worst.
Nixon? Another hell no.
Ford? I dont think he did anything.
Carter? I dont think he did anything either.
Reagan? Oh a big old hell no. The 2nd worst
Bush? Double hell no
Clinton. ? Tied for 2nd worse with Reagan
Bush #2 . Bad but ...Yeah still bad.
Obama? Talked a lot but 41P came through under his watch making NFA a LOT easier.
Trump? Don't get me started. Tied again for 2nd worse.

IMHO...Its Obama. Weird.

George Washington? Essentially every president since the firearms act has been crap.

I should probably add that this was right after the bump stock ban when I heard this gem being dropped. They were talking politics I kept my mouth shut because I just wanted some wads to reload some shot shells

Took up arms against the whiskey rebellion. The very thing the 2nd amendment was supposed to keep from happening.

If what you said is accurate, it makes me wonder if the proofreaders/editors fiddled with the text.

So my wife has a "fact or crap" calendar she uses for her daily zoom meeting icebreaker.
Yesterday she was talking to her dad and read us one about Washington...
it was something like "fact or crap? the iriquois people's nickname for george washington was 'great peacemaker'"

I lol'd and said "washington was anything but a peace maker... and happy anniversary of the battle of trenton, where washington led his troops across the delaware on fricking christmas to go kill hessians"
They looked at me like I did something wrong.
Then wifey flipped the calendar page over and read that the iriquois name for washington was Conotocaurius (Town Destroyer).
They don't like playing trivia games with me...

Was told this one last week]

Me-Yall do transfers between people (request of a seller that had something I wanted for sale), it would be a long gun,

Them- yes but you have to have a permit.

Me- Even though it's a rifle and isn't required per the ATF?

Them- Yes.

me- Ok thanks.

Shopping for Christmas at Atlas, young Democrat with his belt around his thighs comes in and says "I want to buy an assault rifle".

Clerk didn't miss a beat, said "I hope you have a lot of money and a lot of time!"

Bought a 1911 on the 24th because why not.

Clerk :want some ammo with it? I'll make ya a deal 50 round box only 60 bucks.
What was the non-deal price? o_O

I have no idea... I didn't even bother asking. The gun was a deal the ammo was not. I only bought it because I had 500 some odd rounds at home that I found from when I sold one years ago and needed something to shoot them in.

Would be a good fight...but Mike has more friends.

Betcha John has more gold coins..."friends" can be purchased.

“You can only buy ammo if you’re buying a gun”

Makes sense. Not stupid at all. How can I way overcharge you for a gun and not have an overpriced supply of ammo for you to send down range?

Is what you said is accurate, it makes me wonder if the proofreaders/editors fiddled with the text.

I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps the previous editor/editors of the books had firearms knowledge and didn't do this one.
or...it's one of those scenarios where the author really didn't write the book. I hate that. They plaster the famous authors name in huge font on the cover and at the bottom it says "With So and So". That's how James Patterson knocks out so many. It used to be when the author got old and retired or died. Now it seems to be just a matter of course.
Had a guy tell me one time: What do you mean you want $$$ for that gun. I only paid 150.00 for one just like that back in 1968. Felt like telling him well dude you get into your time machine and go back in time and buy us a couple at 1968 prices and we will sell them at 2016 prices.

Reminds me of the geezers that I used to sell Grand Marquis too. They'd look at the sticker and exclaim that they paid less than that for their first house. Union trades guys, a lot of them. They didn't whine that their wages had increased over the years. Kinda realative. Funny too. Big time union types whining about the price of something made in a most likely union shop.

Bear Creek upper? Yeah I'll take that.

John
Just curious. What's wrong with them?

I impulse bought a side charger upper from them. Stainless steel. Shipped in a timely manner. Fit's on my EA15 lower like they were cut from the same hunk of aluminum. No slop. I took 150 rounds of various ammo to the range, steel and brass. Ran flawlessly and I don't shoot any worse with it wearing Wilson Combat BUIS. I'm going to build an 80% lower that's raw. I'll polish up the lower and put some sort of clear coat on it maybe?

I'm not a big AR guy, and if you asked me what feature I like the least about the platform, it would be the charging handle.

Is there something I need to look out for in the future? Will it spontaneously combust at 200 rounds?

Nothing wrong with the one I bought in 300BLK. Runs like a champ and accurate too. I recently bought some ammo from a forum member who said he has several BCA uppers in various calibers, no problems with any of them. They started out years ago as Moore's Machine and their early runs were crap but it seems they have for the most part turned things around. The one I bought recently I first thought was out of spec but it turned out to be the the lower I was trying it on. I would buy another tomorrow.

I think he wrote it. No other writer like all the Clive Cussler books I read.

The weird thing is two pages later there’s an entire discussion around semiauto pistols. The fact that the Glock 17 was the metro police issued sidearm, and the main character had a G26 “baby Glock”.

Got it.

Didn't get it perfect the first time, so forever garbage.

It was definitely priced right. And available. That's how it ended up being SS. So, hopefully I'll be happy the snobs turn their noses up at them and I could get the upper when others wanted what they had to sell at pandemic pricing. BCA doesn't seem to be doing that. Anything else I found available cost as much as whole gun and then some.

Bear Creek made a horrible first impression with their MMC legacy and QC problems getting started. So to me their brand means "maybe it'll work, maybe it won't". I am no stranger to cheap: I have a safe full of Anderson lowers. But I wouldn't use a BCA barrel to finish a build if you gave me one. Am I a snob or do I just not like to waste time rolling the dice?

Right there with you. Forgot to mention that BCA openly states that most of their uppers are side chargers currently due to a lack of parts availability for standard uppers. Many people want a side charger to be charged from the left side and I would prefer that too, but these are built not from scratch as side chargers, but rather as a way to keep supplying working uppers that they would otherwise not be able to, at least at a reasonable price. The one thing I really don't like about them is that it's a non standard bolt carrier so I have no spare and no way to get one. They don't sell them on their web site, but I'm thinking of giving them a call and see if I can order a spare BCG over the phone.
