Triangle Rucking Group?

Does that say 80 pounds?

Yes, but it is not for rucking. I’m not that strong a guy. It’s for doing lifts, squats and lunges. Has handle all over the place. I was going to order the 120 lb version, but thought I’d start at 80. I need fo augment my walking with some more weight bearing moves. I have kettle bells, but wanted to give this a try. Variety is the spice of life right?

Ok Mother ruckers here‘s a little informative if not kinda goofy video on rucking. When they say you can find anything on the internet they aren’t lying.

Can‘t believe told me I forgot to post the video. Slackers. Here it is.

Ok, let me check in with the boss and see what kid activity commitments I have and get some dates. @Fred you are in charge of disposing any wild animals or domesticated pets we encounter. 😆

@CZfool68 I am choosing my winter paid time off soon. Weekdays might be better, less parking and more people. Let me know what dates might work.

Weekdays are tough for me. Might be able to do a late afternoon meet if it’s relatively close by. Once it gets cold again the soft people will be off the trails. 😆

Did my 6 mile route on the Tobacco Trail today with a 30 lb plate and water bladder. I’ve been doing this every Sunday with non pack walks a few times during the week. For some reason today hit me hard. Tired and a little back soreness tonight. I ain’t 30 or 40 any more I guess. 😏

My schedule is fairly open. And I have a new pack to try out. Let me know. @CZfool68
Let’s do Jordan Lake this weekend. We’ll need to pin down the trail, but I am open. I’d also be up for any other trails if you have a preference. Less humans the better. Hills are good too. I’ve been slacking and need an ass kicking. Saturday or Sunday is fine.

@CZfool68 Either day works. Saturday high temperature is 74, Sunday high is 52 with rain very early in the morning, so probably less humans on Sunday AM if you want to do that.

The New Hope Trail you suggested above should work. No more fees in December. Any time should work for me.

@Fred and anyone else wanting to tag along. Let’s do Saturday early. Dry and cool, i’ve never seen that many people on that trial so it shouldn’t be crowded. Especially during Xmas party season. Lots of hangovers. Maybe 8-9 and then we could head somewhere for lunch after?

Another solid ruck today for Fred and I. The New Hope Trail has some decent ups and downs so I’ll sleep good tonight. According to the trail maps we did 8.1 miles. Might have been less than that since we are not expert navigators.

Some of you slackers should come join us some month. No rules, no pressure to go fast and rest breaks are allowed. You can’t play Wolverines or /rambo if you aren‘t at least in some kind of shape. After the Holidays we’ll get another one planned.

The almighty 2 man CFF rucking squad did another 8 miles today. We’d be up for a shorter, flatter ruck if anyone new wants to get involved. It does a body good. Can‘t fight zombies if you are out of shape.

I need to meet up with you guys once I get back from Pa. This is my go to trail when back Home. I'm not crazy enough to ruck it, just hiking it will kick your butt!! The switchbacks up out of the gorge to the top of the ridge are killer cardio. Well worth the view climbing the ridge though.

I did a 100 mile bike race years ago in PA so I know what kind of pain those hills can inflict. We’ll schedule another meet for January sometime. Come on out. But be warned, you almost have to jog to keep up with Fred. The youngster is like a jack rabbit out there. But it makes for a good cardio workout for older, slightly pudgy guys.

I'm a shortish husky guy with short legs and my walking speed is geared slow. Ala the tortoise and the hare, Fred may be rucking solo out in front of us. If he is outpacing us too bad maybe we can add weight to him. ;)

You can be in front and set the pace and I’ll corral him from the rear. He’s a team player so we’ll be fine. If that doesn’t work we can trip him every once in a while. 🤪

I’ll join you with my sons as soon as we have a weekend off. We are training for a trip to the Bob Marshall and rucking with friends is a nice break to our usual routine.

We did Grandfather Mountain Christmas Eve. Good hike. And tough for this old man.

Hills make the man. I do a couple short walks a week on the Tobacco trail. It is flat as a pancake. Better than nothing, but it doesn’t do much to get the heart pumping. Even with a pack and weight.

I don't know jack about rucking, more of a tobacco trail runner, but I'd like to join you. What gear do I need? I think if you posted a photo of the crew, I and others might have a better understanding of whether we'd fit in or just be way out of our depth.

We have zero rules. You can tote a pack with a Bud Light in it. You can tote no pack. You can load up a bunch of weight in a pack. Whatever works for you. Last ruck I rocked some boots and a pack with 20 lbs plus a water bladder. Fred had a pack with 30 lbs and sneakers. The point is just to get outside and do a few miles. The only thing I‘d say is start with less weight and build up. I have a 20 and 30 lb weight. I can absolutely notice the difference. I actually thought about carrying 50 lbs, but I got smarter.

Fred is a smaller, leaner 25 or so year old guy. I’m about 5’11” 200 lb 53 year old guy that has had a quadruple by-pass so we’re geared for all comers. If you run I’m sure you’ll have no issues and be fine.

We have the 15th and the 29th off, pending checking with wifey for any plans she has made for us. I know we are having friends over for a cookout at some point, but don't think that date has been set yet.

Do you have a backpack of any type? Put something in it for weight. As @CZfool68 said, start light. Or a Plato carrier or weight vest.

Set MPH goals. Can you do a 15 min/mile? If you can, try for 14 min., etc. Walk 1 minute backward every 10 minutes, works the muscles differently. Every 15 minutes stop and do 10 pushups. There are ways to get the heart pumping on the Tobacco Trail.

Stop it dammit. My mid week Tobacco trail walks are my light days. If you make me work hard if may do me in!

I have done some intervals out there in the past, but the running wears on my knees. Maybe if I drop a few more pounds that will not be an issue.

Anyone up for Sunday morning (1/9/22) on the ATT starting somewhere near Southpoint +/-?

Lol. Just gently and brotherly encouragement!

Don't run with a ruck! You're not being paid and you're not a soldier, so you don't want to eff up your knees.

I miss it and look forward to getting back at it.

I could do that. Or Saturday if we want to stay dry. I am not familiar with the trail up there so someone will have to pick a spot and give me some rough directions. @Fred lives up that way so it probably works for him.

I can't do Saturday. Sunday the rain is supposed to be late according to my forecast. Can do another more serious ruck later this week. I can give you directions. You'll probably want to park at the Scott King Road trailhead across from Herndon Park.

Are we planning on doing 2 rucks this month? Cubrock and Mike can't make this one.

I go pretty much every weekend anyway so if I don’t head to the mountains I’m usually ok with meeting somewhere for another ruck. Sunday It is then. I can meet there anytime so whatever works for you guys is fine.

We are free 1/29. Wife scheduled something for us the 15th.

For this Sunday, Jan 9th, how about meeting at the Scott King parking lot. I'm happy to meet pretty much any time in the morning. Want to knock it out early or meet a little later when it's warmer?

I am good for any time. Can someone give me so e rough directions or crossroad by the Scott King lot?

Weather is showing 37 degrees at 9 am tomorrow. 41 at 10. Maybe 10 to stay out of the truly freezing stuff?

FYI there is also a ruck club in Raleigh and Durham (Hope Valley Ruck Club). I think both have social media presence.

There was a magazine article about them. First of all, they are not CFF approved. Secondly, and probably more importantly, they were meeting at 4 am or some such nonsense and rucking through parking lots and urban areas. That sounds crappy to me. Although it might be better situational awareness and live fire practice depending on where they go.
