What blade are you carrying today?

I'm also more than proud to be caught with a GEC in my pocket.....View attachment 296193

My GECs made me a small fortune when I sold off the majority of my collection. I had all of the 38 Grinling Whittlers, even the neptune acrylic, which I sold for total eff you bucks.

You focused primarily on those Pembertons and Washington Jacks?

It feels like I blinked and GECs went from good knives at reasonable prices to unobtanium. What happened?

Ebay flippers and urban lumberjack hipsters

ETA, as I mentioned somewhere else, whenever a new release goes up, they are sold out within minutes at, like, 2:30PM on a Tuesday (so nobody that actually works for a living gets a chance) at most vendors, and the vendor photos are on ebay within hours from folks flipping knives they don't even have in hand yet. I was with GEC from pretty early on, and it's gotten so ridiculous I pretty much stepped out.

I know the flipping soured a lot of folks from "The Porch" over at BF, and there was a flipper list floating around for a bit. There were some FB GEC groups as well that tried to keep the blatant flipping down, but they all got really snarky and drama infused, plus I hated having the fake FB account.

You should ride up to the Fletcher/Asheville show with me one day. A dealer up there I talked to often had a massive collection, primarily focused on Sunfish And Elephant Toenails, but still has plenty of GEC and Queen (and their affiliate brands). He's close friends with Frank Powers of Franks's Classic Knives fame. Haven't talked to him a while though...

What’s the difference between the two?
The Endura is a lightweight as well as per Spyderco but it has liners. The Pacific Salt does not. H1 which is the steel on the Salt is very corrosion resistant but a bit soft. It works better in serrated edge than in plain edge as far as edge holding.

Some days I carry this razor sharp assist opening Buck Tempest.

Picked up a Benchmade 537 Bailout 3v today. Been handling it all afternoon and just can’t decide how much I like it. It’s super light, and I’m a heavy knife guy so I knew it would be an experiment to start with. Right now I’m thinking I won’t carry it, but keep it around in a BOB or something.

Microtech mini-UDT from 1999. Picked up on the forum a couple weeks ago. I didn’t know its true value when I bought it, and apparently neither did the seller. But I’ve come to find this lil’ guy is rather well sought after.

For about 11 years, I carried an Applegate-Fairbarn Combat Folder.

Loved it, just loved it. Had to rebend and then replace the belt clip a couple of times, but it worked pretty good.

Then, about a month ago, I randomly walked through my local gunstore and saw a knife display that was unlocked. And I started fondling things and ended up buying a CRKT Helical.

My goodness what a nice little knife after carrying that monster Combat Folder for so long.

Only downside, is the grip is a little slick. That's the only thing I'd change about it.

A couple strategically placed squares of grip tape?

Now it’s actually usable....like getting the first scratch on a 4wd truck.
Yup. Wasn’t intended to be a safe queen any way. I figured that slicing my own finger would be the first ‘mark’

Found a Combat Folder in Afghanistan in 09’. Carried it for a decade then lost it one night on a C130 flight back in 19’ again in Afghanistan

Gerber Skyridge AO. These AO Gerbers are cheap, sharp, and opens in a flash. I have been happy with the quality and they are cheap enough that I don’t sweat it when I inevitably lose it. I just buy several on Ebay and replenish my stock when needed.

For what it cost, this is a great knife and I like it a lot.

I second this one. Been carrying one for over a year now and it has taken a lot of punishment. Holds a decent edge and if I
Lose it or it breaks I’m out a whopping $35 bucks. Not bad for an auto. On top of that it can be had in a lefty version.
